Never disappointed with this shoe! Quality at its best in my opinion

In my opinion this is the best lip balm ever! I can't use citrus or minty products on my lips so I was so sad to find the store that I was purchasing the organic creamy cocoa butter from stopped stocking this product I tried using other brands but nothing compared to this product. the organic creamy cocoa butter is my absolute favorite so I was more than happy to order on line.

"The bitterness of poor quality lingers far longer than the thrill of a low-price paid." I heard this years ago and I've never forgotten what it means. I purchased a North Face Recon 0ver 15 years ago, and this Surge is the replacement for it. Great comfort, room enough for travel with camera equipment and clothing, heavy-duty enough for backwoods hiking and camping, versatile and stylish enough to commute with everyday. I purchased the black / green color and love getting compliments on the style! North Face equipment stands the test of time and use. My first internal frame pack was a North Face Summit Series and it was worn to the nub backwoods hiking and camping; once you own quality there is no reason to settle for less. I own numerous North Face products (Convertible pants, tent, anorak, etc.) and they all carry the same thread; quality. I will always look for The North Face first for my outdoor needs, and enjoy the fact that I can buy them locally and support local merchants.

The North Face US

Quality materials. Thoughtful design and versatile pockets. I use for work travel and it handles laptop, monitor, peripherals, cords, toiletries, headphones, food water and some travel clothes with ease. I'm really enjoying the organization and good looking durable design. Great bag for me so far. Haven't worn for long periods though straps are very comfortable and fit my body well.

Great work travel bag

I bought the women's surge to replace my 6 year old Recon backpack.
Things I love:
1. front left/right stand up pockets  deep for size. Left side: I can fit 2 pencil cases and laptop charger. Right side (slightly smaller): not as expandable as left side, but can fit wallet or palm sized notebook.
2. sectioned 3-pocket laptop section for easy access. Front (deep): laptop (15"), Back (deep): portfolio/folder, planner, Middle (shallow, near surface): palm-size notebook.
3. Lightweight material. Compared to old Recon, straps are thin so I was scared it'd be lesser quality. After using it day to day, I appreciate the design because it's lightweight, forms well to my body, and feels well-built/made well with high quality.
4. Water bottle side pockets are deep. My yeti rambler 36oz fits snug and secure. Not worried it'll fall out as long as I'm standing/sitting up (near) straight. I only get concerned it'll fall out if I bend over far enough. I wish it had side strap buckles like the recon but it's ok.

Things still warming up to:
1. Not as expandable. Since the zippers don't go all the way down, bottom half is durable waterproof material, and the front-sectioned compartments fill into the main compartment, I'm not able to stuff a variety of stuff into the main compartment. Able to fit 2 textbooks and 2 notebooks. Daily: 1 textbook, 2 notebook, 1 jacket.
2. doesn't stand on own unless bottom is filled. tends to lean forward with just my books inside because my front compartments are usually filled (front heavy). If I stuff jacket to bottom, it'll stand but this is inconvenient sometimes.
3. front fleece pocket is weird. I like that it's big but zipper is on bottom so if bag is standing upright, things fall out if not paying attention.
4. Too many sections? While I appreciate different compartments, I wonder if this takes away from functional space because some pockets feel "tight" and shallow and I find myself wishing they were deeper or could fit more

Pros outweigh cons. My new school bag for next 10 years.

I bought the Surge to replace my 9-year old Recon backpack. It was pricey, but I was willing to pay more for a new favorite backpack. I am disappointed in the surge. There are some nice qualities, like the fleece lined pocket, the YKK zippers, and the waterproof bottom. However, I couldn't fit NEARLY the same amount in it that I did in my Recon. I know they're different models, but the general basics should have been up to the same standard. I used my recon for traveling, teaching, and going to college. It held up and I am just disappointed in the Surge. I tried to fit the same amount of items in both, and if it can't even comfortably fit headphones, a wallet, a pair of gloves, a notebook and a travel kit, how is it going to fit all of my teaching manuals, laptop and papers to grade??

Beautiful but not as functional

Been using Northface backpacks for several years lost one.  Another was stolen still have one then I actually heard about the life long warranty and the last pack they had was wearing out on the shoulder sling. I got the new surge and two of the pockets at the top  have zippers that catch. bummed. Cannot show certification but I am not a bot or work for another company. Just Bummed

Love TNF Backpacks but

PROS: backpack is lightweight with many pockets

CONS: material seems cheap, I purchased this backpack to replace another northface backpack I've had over 10 years that is STILL fine with almost daily use but I just wanted something new.  The difference in quality of this backpack compared to my other one is substantial.  I would have returned it had I not already given my old one away.  Additionally, one of the zipper pull tabs broke and I've only had the backpack for about 3 weeks.  Going through the warranty claims also feels like a chore, I'll probably end up giving this one away and trying another brand.  The straps are also not very comfortable, just overall the backpack doesn't seem well made.

It's so disappointing since I loved my old northface backpack.  I'd buy multiples of it if they only had the same kind/quality now.

Disappointed

Im an ER doc. I used my Surge bag for work only. carry my bag into my car, then into the hospital. the bag then sits on a chair for 12 hours, then I go home. After a few years, the stitching on the support strap for the shoulder strap failed and came off the bag. soon after, the fabric which the zipper is attached to deteriorated and a hole developed. Sent in for warranty service. North face rejected the warranty claim and stated I abused the bag and improperly used the bag. what? are you serious? Im done with North face. loyal customer for over 30 years. jackets, fleeces, bags, gloves, hats, you name it, I have it from North face. no more. now im a Patagonia customer.

warranty not honored. quality getting worse.
