I think using actual metal on the headphones would make them more desirable, just my opinion.

Finally a noise canceling headphones that my 12 yr son finds comfortable and work amazingly.  He uses these for PC gaming along with an external Hi FI mic.

Work Amazingly

I've bought these headphones twice now. I gave my first pair to a friend who needed them, and the second pair got stolen. I'm about to purchase a 3rd pair because these headphones are just OUTSTANDING. Sound quality is great. crisp highs and deep lows. I've used these for gaming, movies, music, on my PC, and on my phone. They perform great and don't need any amplifying. I've owned the Black ones, then the red ones, and now I'll get the Matte Gray ones because they look dope! I recommend these to anyone. I had the ones that didn't have the detachable cable, which kinda sucked when using them on my phone because the cable would pull the phone off my hand if I didn't hold it tight or weave the cable through my fingers, but that's been corrected with the latest models. For anyone curious about these headphones or wondering if they're good for Monitoring. THEY ARE. If you got a good sound card, you audio files are WAV or FLAC, and you got these, you'll be able to hear every single sound in the song or movie. I also noticed a increase in the range a which I could hear footsteps in FPS games. Since they're capable of reaching such lows, that just gave me a great advantage when gaming. Forever my favorite headphones!

I have tried and or owned many headphones and the ATH 50x bl is the best sounding and best looking of any. I have been listening to music since before HI-FI (70+ years old). I enjoy the portability of my music on iPods and smart phones and the M50x brings out the best of these devices. But hooked up to a simple CD player brings your music listening to a new level. During the recording of "Kisses on the Bottom" Paul McCartney along with Diana Krall and her band they wore ATH 50's. Listening to that album with my 50x's It felt as if I was at Capital Studios with them. Thank you Audio-technica for a great product. You made an old man very happy.

Simply the Best!

This headset has excellent sound quality and build quality....but it is very uncomfortable .
The clamp force is too strong( my head is not big neither) which lead to giving me headaches after just an hour of use.
Most definitely would have kept them as they would have been perfect if there was less clamp force and thicker cushion on headband and earpads , but in the end i returned them for the Sennhiesser hd 598SE which i love very much.

Side note: I ordered from Wal-Mart. Com which i will never do again.........my package came damaged and scribbled all over for the second time as if it was already used and not new as advertised. 
Order your expensive electronics from Amazon or Bestbuy if touyou  like your stuff looking like it was handled with care.

Almost Perfect.......

Nice sound.  Ear pads a bit small for my large ears.  Tried aftermarket pads but they really changed the sound quality which seems to be a common complaint.  After fine tuning headband padding and on head placement, I can use for a reasonably long period.  For closed ear phones, the sound is great.

Best headphones on the market. However, I'd deal with this seller cautiously. They sent me the right headphones, but wrong color. I sent a message and they left me hanging. No response. Not the end of the world, but ZERO customer service.

These headphones will probably last forever because nobody will be able to stand the head squeeze very long and these will take up space in a heap somewhere.  I'm going to apologize for not thanking my friend better last year.  I didn't understand why I didn't like them… until today.  NOW I KNOW WHY I DONT USE THEM!  Now I'll dig out my old ones and put these in my donation pile.

On the one hand, these seem like quality headphones. They sound comparable to other sets in $300-$400 range and feel sturdy. None of that out-of-the-box wiggle room I've seen elsewhere. And detachable cables are a must anymore.

On the other hand, I was in the market for a pair of headphones with a 3.5mm jack and I went with the M50x because the specifications on their own page said the connector was 3.5mm. It is not. The M50x uses a 2.5mm jack and comes with a cable with a 3.5mm end. If I'd been looking for good headphones with a non-3.5mm connector I'd have gone with something from Beyerdynamic.

So I'm taking 2-3 stars off for audio-technica either not knowing their own products or choosing to leave misleading information up on their site.
