I ordered the Olympic Elite Natural Woodland Oil Transparent Stain and Sealer, Low VOC.  It is a "modified oil base" and has a lower VOC than others, i.e. less than g/L.  I also like that the product info did not state that it would allow the wood weather and turn gray (like the Waterguard Clear).  Thus far, I have just tested the product on 3 different pieces of wood with a brush.  This natural color is not dark or even medium.  It seems to produce a light color that slightly darkens the wood, which is the effect that I am wanting.  However, the original color of the wood (lighter or darker) is also a factor in determining the final appearance of the color after this natural color sealant is applied.  After having tested it, I believe that this product is fine and the one I wanted.  I plan to move forward with my project.

Will Use This Sealant

I was surprised at how easy it was to apply. Looks good after one coat. May apply a second coat. More orangey brown color than coffee colored.

My order came quickly and was only mildly dented with some spillage inside the box.  The only reason I didn't give this order a 5 star rating is because I thought I was ordering Olympic Elite "Royal Mahogany" oil formula and that's not what I received.  I'm hoping I can still find someone who has the Royal Mahogany color in the oil formala.  Unfortunately, since my fence was previously stained with the Royal Mahogany color I would like to keep this new section the same color!

Great response to my order, wrong color

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Used Olympic Woodland Mountain Cedar on our old deck which had been powerwashed and scrubbed.  The wood was extremely absorbent (which we expected) so the product is only going about a third as far as we estimated from the scale on the can.  Most oil based wood preservatives are this way so we don't have a problem with that.  What did cause us some consternation was the great degree of color difference and product consistency between the three 3gallon cans we bought.  We mixed them together as recommended but they didn't mix up worth a darn.  Also, by the time we got to the bottom of the can (mixed with a power mixer each time we got more for our paint trays) the consistency was about like pudding.  So, we are not sure what the final dried color or coverage will be since some was like spreading wine and some was like painting with latex. So far, though, it looks great.

I did not receive Mountaun Cedar. I received ugly ***** purposely mislabeled as Mountain Cedar.

Bought three cans to do the deck. We started with the stairs. Then the next day did the deck. As we got closer, we realized the deck was more red, the stairs more brown. Thought maybe it would dry closer to the same color. Nope. Checking the remnants of the first can, we did a color match side by side on a board (see pic). Not even close. Now I have brown stairs and reddish deck. With spindles, will take at least 6-8 hours to strip, sand and re-stain. I expect some color variation between cans, but nothing this extreme.

A Tale of Two Decks: We have almost 1500 square feet if deck consisting of 3 decks on two buildings right next to each other. All were built at the same time and all weather approximately equally. Two years ago we cleaned and stained the first deck using TWP stains. Last summer we took on the big deck on the main house and decided to use Olympic Stain since it was avaialble nearby and there was a rebate offered. Both decks were cleaned and prepped virtually the same way, except we used a professional company to prep the bigger deck. Application went well. We had hoped to roll and use pads, but quickly switched to brushes to insure better coverage and get stain into spaces between boards. The Kona Brown looked incredible for teh remainder of the season. Unfrortuately that did not last. By late winter we began to notice sections where th stain seems to have worn away. The “patch's” are random and unsightly. They are spread out over the entire deck so I don't suspect application or curing in specific areas. We will be using TPW on th remainder of the deck and as soon as we can get the Olympic stain from the main deck.
